Starting Your Own Home Business:
What Does It Take?
How
many times have you, or someone you know, said something like
"I've always wanted to have a home business of my own. Something I'd
really enjoy doing. Be my own boss."
Lots of people have the dream, but
they get bogged down in the details of how to go about it and where
to start. While this article isn't meant to serve as a complete home
business start-up guide, it will give you an idea of some of the
steps involved in starting your own home business.
1. Choose the right business
One of the most important things in choosing the right home business
opportunity for
you is does the product and/or the opportunity you are marketing
really excite you. Can you get passionate about it? Remember you
will be promoting and marketing these products/services and/or the
business opportunity to create an income. You have to be able to
believe whole heartedly that what your offering is going to add
massive value to the people you introduce to your product or
opportunity. Ensure you check out the business and the people behind
it thoroughly as there are so many scams out there on the internet
that just want to take your money. Do not fall for the "Just a few
clicks and you're practically a millionaire" hype. Make sure you due
your due diligence and remember any legitimate home business
will take time, money and learning to build.
2.
Joining the right team
If you want to be successful align yourself with people who have
already had major success in what you want to do. Whether you go
into business with that person or you learn from them how to
succeed, having a success mentor will fast track your success.
When choosing a home business, make
sure you join a team that provide excellent training, support and
marketing systems that will help you maximise your chance of
success.
3. Plan you time
As most people who start a home business will begin part-time it is
important to plan your time carefully. You have to look at your
typical week and identify when you can factor in some focussed time
in building your home business. 80% of that time should be spent in
marketing your business and 20% should be spent in learning skills
to grow your business.
For every hour you commit to your
home business, start off by writing some goals or targets you want
to accomplish within that hour. Then focus on working hard to
achieving those goals in the time you have allotted to work your
business. Examples of goals could be to i) call 10 people to invite
them to look at your website ii) send 20 emails to people about your
business iii) contact 20 like minded people on facebook to be your
friends.
4. Plan you marketing budget
The more marketing budget you have the faster your will be able to
grown your home business. Allocate a monthly budget and stick to it
and always remember you are looking for a return on investment (ROI)
for every marketing dollar you spend. Ultimately that ROI is the
leads that are generated that convert into buying customers.
If you have a good budget but
limited time you can outsource your marketing tasks through sites
like guru.com
If you have a small or low budget
then you will have to do more of the legwork yourself.
5. Create an office area to
build your home business from
It is highly important that you create a home office space where you
can go to work when building your home business. This space will
have your PC/Laptop and telephone. Make sure your home office area
is away from distractions like the noise of a TV/Radio and your
family members are made aware that when you in your home office
building your home business, you are not to be disturbed.
6. Admin and bookkeeping
There are many benefits of owning a home business because you can
off set costs against your business and reduce your taxes. Make sure
you keep receipts and invoices of all the costs you incur related to
building your home business. Some of the costs that can be deducted
can include; using your home as an office, petrol expenses if you
travel to meetings, marketing costs, internet and phone costs
You can seek the advise of an
accountant or tax specialist to help you in this area.
7. Promote & market your
business consistently
Decide how you will let people know you about your business and
invite people to see your product and/or business consistently. If
you are new to a home business you may well need to learn marketing
skills to help you grow your business. Make sure the company you
decide to join provides the training and support especially if you
are a newbie.
Let's look back at the way this
article began: "I've always wanted to have a home business of my
own. Something I'd really enjoy doing. Be my own boss."
YOU CAN! Without all of the
headaches of traditional business.
The
best part of exploring home-based business opportunities is that
there is little risk and the upside is
tremendous.
Many of the inconveniences and
pressures of the traditional business are wiped away with the home
business. The biggest roadblock to starting or buying a business is
that they require a considerable up-front cash investment. In
addition to the large investment, the time commitment you must make
when starting a business can ultimately turn out to be far greater
than what you have experienced in any job, and the return is not
necessarily worth the extra time or the financial risk.
Fill
out the contact form, and we will provide you with additional
information about the opportunity that is truly shaping many
ordinary people's lives and allowing them the freedom to live
out their dreams without all of the headaches and
costs of traditional business.
